The following waterproof levels refer to international applicable standards such as IEC60529, GB4208, GB/T10485-2007, DIN40050-9, ISO20653, ISO16750, etc.:
1. Scope: The scope of waterproof test covers the protection levels with the second characteristic number from 1 to 9, coded as IPX1 to IPX9K.
2. Contents of various levels of waterproof test: IP protection level is an international standard used to evaluate the protection ability of the housing of electrical equipment against solid objects and water penetration. Each level has corresponding test methods and conditions to ensure that the equipment can achieve the expected protection effect in actual use. Yuexin Test Manufacturer is a third-party testing organization with CMA and CNAS qualifications, focusing on providing IP waterproof and dustproof performance testing services, helping customers to gain an in-depth understanding of the performance of their products, and can issue test reports with CNAS and CMA seals.
The following is a detailed description of the test methods for different IPX levels:
• IPX1: Vertical drip test:

Sample placement: The sample is placed on the rotating sample table in the normal working position, and the distance from the top to the drip port is not more than 200mm.
Test conditions: The drip volume is 1.0+0.5mm/min, and it lasts for 10 minutes.
Drip needle aperture: 0.4mm.
• IPX2: 15° drip test:
Test equipment: drip test device.
Sample placement: The sample is tilted 15°, and the distance from the top to the drip port is not more than 200mm. After each test, change to another side, for a total of four times.
Test conditions: The drip volume is 3.0+0.5mm/min, and it lasts for 4×2.5 minutes, for a total of 10 minutes.
Drip needle aperture: 0.4mm.
IPX3: Rainfall swing pipe water spray test:
Test equipment: Swing pipe water spray and splash test.
Sample placement: The height of the sample table is at the position of the swing pipe diameter, and the distance from the top to the sample water spray port is not more than 200mm.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated according to the number of water spray holes of the swing pipe, 0.07 L/min per hole, the swing pipe swings 60° on both sides of the vertical line, each swing is about 4 seconds, and lasts for 10 minutes. After 5 minutes of testing, the sample rotates 90°.
Test pressure: 400kPa.
Sample placement: The parallel distance from the top to the water spray port of the handheld nozzle is between 300mm and 500mm.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is 10L/min.
Water spray hole diameter: 0.4mm.
• IPX4: Splash test:
Swing pipe splash test: Test equipment and sample placement: Same as IPX3.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated according to the number of water spray holes of the swing pipe, 0.07L/min per hole, and the water spray area is the water sprayed from the water spray holes in the 90° arc on both sides of the midpoint of the swing pipe to the sample. The swing pipe swings 180° on both sides of the vertical line, and each swing lasts about 12 seconds for 10 minutes.
Sample placement: The parallel distance from the top to the water spray port of the handheld nozzle is between 300mm and 500mm.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is 10L/min, and the test time is calculated according to the surface area of the outer shell of the sample to be tested, 1 minute per square meter, and a minimum of 5 minutes.
Water spray hole diameter: 0.4mm.
• IPX4K: Pressurized swing pipe rain test:
Test equipment and sample placement: Same as IPX3.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated according to the number of water spray holes of the swing pipe, 0.6±0.5 L/min per hole, and the water spray area is the water sprayed from the water spray holes in the 90° arc on both sides of the midpoint of the swing pipe. The swing pipe swings 180° on both sides of the vertical line, each swing lasts about 12 seconds, and lasts for 10 minutes. After 5 minutes of testing, the sample rotates 90°.
Test pressure: 400kPa.
• IPX3/4: Handheld shower head water spray test:
Test equipment: Handheld water spray and splash test device.
Test conditions: The water flow rate is 10L/min, and the test time is calculated according to the surface area of the shell of the sample to be tested, 1 minute per square meter, and a minimum of 5 minutes.
Sample placement: The parallel distance of the water spray outlet of the handheld sprinkler is between 300mm and 500mm.
Number of water spray holes: 121 water spray holes.
The water spray hole diameter is: 0.5mm.
Nozzle material: made of brass.
• IPX5: Water spray test:
Test equipment: The inner diameter of the water spray nozzle of the nozzle is 6.3mm.
Test conditions: The distance between the sample and the water spray nozzle is 2.5~3 meters, the water flow rate is 12.5L/min, and the test time is calculated according to the surface area of the outer shell of the sample under test, 1 minute per square meter, and a minimum of 3 minutes.
• IPX6: Strong water spray test:
Test equipment: The inner diameter of the water spray nozzle of the nozzle is 12.5mm.
Test conditions: The distance between the sample and the water spray nozzle is 2.5~3 meters, the water flow rate is 100L/min, and the test time is calculated according to the surface area of the outer shell of the sample under test, 1 minute per square meter, and a minimum of 3 minutes.
• IPX7: Short-time immersion water test:
Test equipment: immersion tank.
Test conditions: The distance from the bottom of the sample to the water surface is at least 1 meter, and the distance from the top to the water surface is at least 0.15 meters, and it lasts for 30 minutes.
